Our Future Starts Today
Mission Statement
Disseminate sustainable and environmentally responsible technologies and practices through education, training, and program implementation.
Recognition that the solid waste management infrastructure is a significant point source of greenhouse gases (e.g., methane) that impacts climate change.
Implementation of solid waste management programs should follow the “Integrated Waste Management Hierarchy”, which puts a priority on the prevention and reduction of the generation of waste.
Incorporate the principles of Environmental Justice in the curriculum and in the operational programs and projects undertaken by EcoTelesis International.
Exemplify the “Leadership by Example” principle in all aspects of the projects undertaken by EcoTelesis.
Increase the level of industry/corporate involvement in the development of academic curriculum in environmental engineering and law; and develop collaborative research and training opportunities for students.
Develop and implement innovative digital tools (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, digital twin, etc.) and technologies to optimize the solid waste industry and to improve the health and safety of workers, as well as provide training to assist employees in transitioning to the digital age.
EcoTelesis has adopted the concept of “Continued Improvement”: “There is no best, there is always better”.
Utilize the EPA’s “Cooperative Environmental Management” approach, and promote “Public Private Partnerships (P3)”
We Made
a Promise
In 1990, our initial funding was granted by the Office of Cooperative Environmental Management at the US EPA. This funding allowed us to embark on the following endeavors:
- Design and deliver a course titled "Business and the Environment."
- Set up efficient technical assistance programs catering to the needs of government entities, industry sectors, and educational institutions.
- Create environmental education initiatives that leverage best management practices and case studies derived from collaborative programs and projects involving businesses and government agencies.
Our Goals / Objectives
Assist government and industry to develop science-based programs, policies, and regulations to improve the overall recycling and solid waste management infrastructure by promoting the utilization of best management practices.
Undertake projects that can serve as “Peer Match Models” in which environmental best management practices and case studies can be utilized for teaching, and to develop “industry mentors” to serve as a technical resource for their respective industry, e.g., Toyota Motor Sales, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles County Smart Business Program, Walt Disney Company, and Warner Brothers.
Revise UCLA Engineering Extension’s existing 35-year Recycling/Solid Waste Management Certification Program to include international engineering approaches on facility design engineering and on best management technologies to address the impact of solid waste management on climate change. Incorporate the most requested subjects from local government and industry, e.g., how to develop appropriate recovery rate performance metrics/standards for various types of processing facilities.
Expand the number of existing internships for university-level students with regulatory agencies, industry, and local government to provide practical, real-life experience to supplement basic principles learned in academic institutions and to create collaboration on joint research projects that are designed for mentoring opportunities that develop effective cooperative group efforts and leadership skills needed for environmental work.
Provide environmental externship opportunities for staff of local government and regulatory agencies to promote a better understanding of the operational realities of a regulated entity.
Expand EcoTelesis’ independent cost-effective legal and technical assistance via the service-to-government and service-to-industry technical assistance programs, e.g., technical assistance to the City of Los Angeles Local Enforcement Agency which EcoTelesis has provided for the last 25+ years
